A few frequently asked questions

  • Q. How could North American Power offer competitive rates on my electricity?

When your state deregulated its energy market, it opened the industry to competition so that home owners and businesses could shop for the best value. This has allowed companies like North American Power to buy energy in the wholesale markets and have control over the rates we can offer customers. Our electricity flows into the Local Power Pool and is delivered to your home or business by your local utility via existing power lines just as it always has. The only difference will be a new electric rate on the supply portion of your bill.

  • Q. So my local utility will still service my account?

Yes. You are still a customer of your local utility. Taking service from North American Power will not affect your distribution or transmission service and such services will continue to be provided by your local utility. They will still provide the delivery of your electricity, billing, and repairs.

  • Q. Will my electricity be interrupted when I change my utility’s supply to yours?

Nope. You’ll never see a flicker. The transition is seamless. All you’ll notice is your new electric rate. It’s that easy.

  • Q. Will I have to get a new meter or any new equipment?n

No. You keep your meter and your local utility will still read it just as it always has.

  • Q. Who do I pay?

Your current utility. They will still send you just one bill and you will continue to make the payment to them. Nothing changes except that North American Power will be listed on your bill as your electric supplier and the supply rate will be North American Power’s rate. If you wish to change your current payment method, you can do so through the utility.

  • Q. Who do I contact in an emergency?

Your current utility. For reference, visit your local utility’s website.

  • Q. Who do I contact about North American Power’s portion of the bill?

Us. 888-313-9086. We are located at 20 Glover Avenue, Norwalk, CT 06850.

  • Q. When will my new North American Power supply rate officially take effect?

Depending on your utility and meter read date, it may take anywhere from 30-60 calendar days before you see North American Power's name and rate on your electricity bill. To avoid delays, please make sure you accurately enter all of your customer information while enrolling.

  • Q. Will my utility be mad at me for choosing North American Power’s supply?

Not one iota. They don’t even charge you a penalty. Again, they do not earn a profit from their supply charge, so it’s no loss for them. In fact, they don’t even lose customers because they’re still our electricity service providers.

  • Q. How does choosing North American Power affect Energy Assistance Program (EAP) Customers?

If you are currently enrolled in an Energy Assistance Program, switching to a competitive electric power supplier will result in the loss of the EAP discount on the energy supply portion of the bill.

  • Q. What happens at the end of my fixed rate term?

Rest assured that before your fixed term expires, we’ll notify you of your renewal options in the mail. If a renewal option is not selected prior to the end of the fixed rate term, your rate will change to a variable rate plan, which may be higher or lower than the utility.

  • Q. What if I want to cancel my fixed rate plan is there an Early Termination Fee?

After switching to North American Power and receiving our terms of service, you can cancel the Agreement without penalty within 3 business days of personal or electronic delivery, or 5 business days after postmarked date (if delivered by mail). After that, if you cancel or change supply service prior to the end of NAP’s fixed rate term, you will be subject to an early termination fee of $10 for each month remaining on the fixed-price contract.

  • Q. Does my North American Power rate only affect the supply portion of my bill?

Yes, any changes in your rate as a result of switching to North American Power will only affect the supply portion of your bill. Any savings will not apply to your utility charges, delivery charges, taxes and are subject to change.
